The Beauty of Steam Cooking

One of the best and most forgotten forms of cooking is steaming. It is quick, easy, healthy, flavorful, and versatile. If you have a any mode to boil water such as a stove top, barbecue grill, or plug-in hot plate, you can steam an entire meal from appetizers through desserts. You can use a typical colander pot, traditional Asian bamboo steamer placed over a metal pot of boiling water as shown, or any pot of water with a metal rack or upside-down dish to prop up your pan.

I love the stackable bamboo steamers because you can make an entire meal in one pot of boiling water. The steam self-bastes, so your meal is flavor-infused.  No oil is necessary so less calories and retains much of it’s vitamins and minerals.  On very hot days when the last thing you want to do is to stand over a hot stove or turn on the oven, steaming can be a great alternative. Some of the best tasting cakes and muffins are done with steam right on your stove top as well. Whether you’re a seasoned cook or a bumbler in the kitchen, you can impress your friends and family without breaking a sweat. And in living a modern busy lifestyle, less stress and healthier food is a great combination.
